What does a UX/UI designer do?

UX/UI designers are professionals responsible for the way we interact with our favorite apps, digital products, and services. They blend technical functionality with aesthetics by focusing on key aspects of design such as brand expression, visual communication, accessibility, color, layout, and typography. As a UX/UI designer you will: 

• Conduct user research with proven methodologies that will help you understand design needs.

• Design for more than the look of a product, by using interaction design to develop the ideal experience for your users.

• Keep business branding and continuity in mind when designing for clients.

• Communicate your design decisions to stakeholders in a compelling form, through wireframing and storyboarding.

• Carry out rapid prototyping using tools like InVision, Adobe XD, and Figma.

• Test your assumptions and biases by analyzing user experiences through UX interviewing.

Admission requirements for a UX/UI boot camp

Our online boot camp requires:

• A high school diploma

• A submission form

• A conversation with admissions 

• A complete application

• A problem-solving assessment (no prior UX/UI knowledge is required)

• A financial options, deposit, and enrollment agreement

You do not need a bachelor’s or a master's degree to apply to the online UX/UI boot camp.

What is taught in a UX/UI class?

Our virtual UX/UI boot camp classes empower you to become an end-to-end UX/UI professional, with the hard and soft skills needed to solve big design challenges. One-third of our curriculum is dedicated to front end web development, so you’ll soon be fluent in the medium you’ll be working with — even if you aren’t executing the programming.

• Atomic Design

• Adobe XD and Figma

Module 3: Visual design theory

Learn the many other aspects of visual design that UX/UI developers rely on to build highly engaging user experiences. You will learn:

• Typography

• Heuristics, usability, and UI iterations

• Continuity and branding in UX and UI

• Iconography

Module 4: Web prototyping and interaction design

Create live web applications as full-fledged prototypes, and experiment with more complex user interactions. You will learn:

• HTML

• CSS

• GitHub

• Bootstrap

• JavaScript

• jQuery

Module 5: Final project

Work in small groups to put into practice the software, skills, and techniques you’ve learned and add this final project to your portfolio.

Salaries within the UX/UI field can vary depending on the company, job setting, or location. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for digital designers was $77,200 per year in 2020, and the job outlook from 2020 to 2030 for those positions is projected to increase by 13%.¹ In addition, the median pay for digital designers can depend on the industry, whether it’s publishing and technology or public relations and consulting.
